Pista BMX Las Brisas Guatemala

Semuc Champey (Donde el río se esconde) For English version please scroll down.

SEMUC CHAMPEY (Where the river hides)

To take this trip you need to consider the following: If you travel by car from Guatemala city it will take around 7 hours for you to arrive to Semuc Champey, you take the road to Coban and then the road to Lanquín, it is here where, if you are not traveling in a ATV you can take a ride in pick ups that offer a roundtrip for  $8 per person in groups of minimum 4 people or if you prefer  you can rent the vehicle only for you and your group for around $45 roundtrip
After the long journey we finally got to Las Marías Hotel which has very good customer service and excellent  food.

The hotel  has a private deck where you can camp, you need to consider that the power plant turns off at 10 pm which is great if you want to be lulled by Cahabon River.
The next day we walked to Semuc  Champey, from the hotel it only takes 15 minutes and 5 by car, parking costs around $3 and entry fees are $3 nationals, $1.50 kids and $8 foreign.
At the entrance there are bathrooms, small restaurants and a camping area which costs $1.50 per person. The park is open from 8 am to 6 pm and it is allowed to take your own food although you have the option to eat at the small restaurants of the entrance for around $4 for lunch. It is not permitted to carry alcohol, fire guns or hunting.

We got into the park and we walked for around 30 to 45 minutes to the viewpoint, it is a highly recommended experience. Also, besides swimming in it the turquoise waters, we recommend you get to the point known as “El Sumidero” which is the place where Cahabon rivers ges under the natural pools, when you leave you should follow the sign which says “By Cahabon river” which takes to the place where the river emerges again and the same road takes you to the entrance.

If  you plan to stay another night, we recommend to visit Kan’Ba caves, which is an unforgettable adventure where you’ll find spectacular caves and a river that goes through them. The entrance fee to the caves are the same of Semuc Chmapey, $3 nationals, $1.50 kids and $8 foreign. These caves are managed by Las Marías Hotel where you can get more information about the tours they offer.

                                    https://c2.staticflickr.com/8/7246/13957150465_66daba3610_b.jpg

                                                       (Scroll down for English version)

Visiting Hun Nal Ye (The house of the God of the Moon)

Remembering about all the adventures we have had with my family, the first showing in my mind would definitely be Hun Nal Ye, in Alta Verapaz, at about 7 hours driving from Guatemala city, I am not sure if it was the impression it caused to see this paradise in the middle of nowhere or all of the differet activities this hotel offers.
We got there with all my family (and when I say "all" is because we got there in two 4x4 vehicles looking like tuna cans), they gave us a nice welcoming and took us to the 3  rooms we reserved out of the 10 the hotel has.
Everything was perfectly in place and the most important thing (at least for me... and my mom of course) it was all very clean.

Hun nal ye is a place to stay, relax and dissconect from the world, even if you stay many days there you won't feel like you enjoyed all the activities enough.

The first thing I noticed in front of the rooms was a small lagoon where they have Tilapias (a very popular and delicious kind of fish), so if you enjoy fishing, you can just sit there and if you are lucky enough you might catch your dinner, and if I tell you this, it's because the hotel can cook your fish for you so you can eat that food that took so much effort from you to get.

Another activity, and personally the one that I enjoyed the most is trekking which starts with an expedition vehicle that gives you an introduction to the adventure you are about to have, you won't walk that much time but in the end of the trail you'll be able to appreciate something amazing: A Cenote (which in Mayan means "hole with water" just as simple as that)
From this Cenote, a beautiful river called "Dolores" is born, there are many places during the hiking  were you can just take a rest and swim in its peaceful turquoise waters.

Besides this activities the hotel offers, horseback riding, ATV's rental, camping area, museum, tubbing and of course Canopy which is super exciting since its stations
are above the river and the woods.

Food is very good, super fresh y customer service is excellent. It is definitely one of those reasons why you need to visit Guatemala!

Volcán Atitlán
(For english entry scroll down)

A couple of weeks ago we had the opportunity to join the 13 years old Rodrigo Meza in his celebration of the completion of the 37 peaks in Guatemala, on Atitlan volcano. For our surprise Rodrigo turned out to be the youngest climber registered to complete this challenge.

The way up to this volcano offers spectacular views that only our beautiful Guatemala can give us. We walked about 5 hours to the camp, called Chanan. We camped in the woods on the fork of the two volcanoes.

As we arrived early at the campground, we had the good fortune to share and get to know each other as peers while enjoying all of our food. Others simply set up their camp and decided to sleep all afternoon.

Sleeping was a bit uncomfortable but due to previous hard walk was not a difficult task falling asleep.

Once rested, at 3 in the morning we started our way from Chanan to the top of Atitlan volcano, a walk that took the best of us. This requires a lot of effort and patience, especially patience.

Personally, I already hiked 30 of the 37 volcanoes and this one has been one of the hardest I had ever tried.

Reaching the peak we celebrated with Rodrigo for his achievement.

For me it was one of the best views I've ever experienced in my history as a climber, the landscape has a unique view of the lake and the volcanic chain.

Descending is a cool part. Quite steep making it dangerous but generally one takes less time than you think.

Arriving in San Lucas Toliman, where we expect the bus, we went to a delicious pizza and hamburguer restaurant in the park. Good to recover from the the challenge.

Take the challenge of traveling, visit Guatemala.Experience the adventure of Hiking its Volcanoes, get to know all its Magic and discover a new Mayan world full of great experiences!
