Para hacer este  viaje toma en cuenta lo siguiente: si viajas en automóvil desde la ciudad capital te tomara alrededor de 7 horas llegar a Semuc Champey, tomas la carretera hacia Coban y luego la carretera a Lanquín, es en este punto donde, si no viajas en carro doble tracción, existen pick ups que te ofrecen el servicio de ida y vuelta  por Q50 por personas en grupos de minímo 4 personas ó si lo prefieres puedes alquilar el vehículo exclusivo para tu grupo familiar y tu por Q250 ida y vuelta.
Después del largo viaje llegamos a hospedarnos al hotel  Las Marías, que posee una muy atención y además excelente comida.

El hotel cuenta con un muelle propio donde se puede acampar, toma en cuenta que la planta eléctrica se desconecta a las 10 de la noche lo cual es perfecto si lo que quieres es ser arrullado por las aguas del río Cahabon.
Al siguiente día emprendimos una caminata de 15 minutos hacía el parque de Semuc Champey, un trayecto que en carro es de 5 minutos, el parqueo con seguridad tiene un costo de Q20, mientras las tarifas de entrada al parque son de Q30 para nacionales, Q10 niños y Q50 extranjeros. En la entrada al parque se ubica el centro de visitantes donde hay baños, restaurantes y un área para acampar que tiene un costo de Q10 por persona. El horario del parque es de 8 am a 6 pm y se te es permitido llevar tu propia comida aunque siempre tienes la opción de los restaurantes que funcionan en las afueras del parque a un costo aproximado de Q25 por plato de almuerzo.  No está permitido ingresar bebidas alcohólicas, armas de fuego, ni la caza de animales.

Entramos al parque e hicimos una caminata que te toma unos 30 a 45 minutos hacia el mirador, es una experiencia altamente recomendada. También, además de nadar en la pozas de agua color turquesa, te recomendamos llegar hasta la parte conocida como “el sumidero” que es el lugar donde el río Cahabon se esconde bajo las tranquilas pozas;  a la salida te recomendamos seguir el sendero señalizado como salida por río Cahabon  que te llevara a ver la salida del río Cahabon  y vuelves a salir a la entrada en el centro de visitantes.

Si planeas quedarte otra noche, te recomendamos visitar las cuevas de Kan’Ba, una aventura inolvidable donde encontraras espectaculares cuevas las cuales son atravesadas por un río que nace en la montaña. La entrada a la cuevas tiene el mismo precio de Semuc Champey Q30 nacionales, Q10 niños  y Q50 extranjeros. Estas cuevas son administradas por el hotel Las Marías donde puedes obtener mejor información sobre sus tours.

         SEMUC CHAMPEY (Where the river hides)

To take this trip you need to consider the following: If you travel by car from Guatemala city it will take around 7 hours for you to arrive to Semuc Champey, you take the road to Coban and then the road to Lanquín, it is here where, if you are not traveling in a ATV you can take a ride in pick ups that offer a roundtrip for  $8 per person in groups of minimum 4 people or if you prefer  you can rent the vehicle only for you and your group for around $45 roundtrip
After the long journey we finally got to Las Marías Hotel which has very good customer service and excellent  food.

      

The hotel  has a private deck where you can camp, you need to consider that the power plant turns off at 10 pm which is great if you want to be lulled by Cahabon River.
The next day we walked to Semuc  Champey, from the hotel it only takes 15 minutes and 5 by car, parking costs around $3 and entry fees are $3 nationals, $1.50 kids and $8 foreign.
At the entrance there are bathrooms, small restaurants and a camping area which costs $1.50 per person. The park is open from 8 am to 6 pm and it is allowed to take your own food although you have the option to eat at the small restaurants of the entrance for around $4 for lunch. It is not permitted to carry alcohol, fire guns or hunting.   
                             
                                

We got into the park and we walked for around 30 to 45 minutes to the viewpoint, it is a highly recommended experience. Also, besides swimming in it the turquoise waters, we recommend you get to the point known as “El Sumidero” which is the place where Cahabon rivers ges under the natural pools, when you leave you should follow the sign which says “By Cahabon river” which takes to the place where the river emerges again and the same road takes you to the entrance.

If  you plan to stay another night, we recommend to visit Kan’Ba caves, which is an unforgettable adventure where you’ll find spectacular caves and a river that goes through them. The entrance fee to the caves are the same of Semuc Chmapey, $3 nationals, $1.50 kids and $8 foreign. These caves are managed by Las Marías Hotel where you can get more information about the tours they offer.
